MaxxSouth Broadband extends support to MSU Libraries
Two gifts from MaxxSouth Broadband, a subsidiary of the media holding company, Block Communications, Inc., are benefitting Mississippi State University and the current expansion of Mitchell Memorial Library.
The first gift is a $440,000 contribution to establish the MaxxSouth Broadband Digital Media Center Facilities Fund, as well as an accompanying endowment to provide perpetual support for the facility’s upkeep.
Building upon MSU Libraries’ technology offerings, the newly constructed MaxxSouth Broadband Digital Media Center will greatly enhance the services and facilities provided through the current Instructional Media Center. The newly named center will be located in a larger, more visible library area, providing students and faculty accessibility to the latest software, technology, broadcast and recording studios, a Makerspace and a GIF/Data Visualization Lab.
The second, a gift-in-kind, will provide commercial advertising to promote and advance the university and MSU Libraries over a three-year period. This support is aimed at providing a positive impact, not only on MSU students, but also on the surrounding communities that benefit from the various programs offered by the university and MSU Libraries.
“Universities play such an important role in society, so we feel it is our duty to give back,” said Peter Kahelin, president and CEO of MaxxSouth Broadband. “The purpose of our support to Mississippi State University is to maintain and enhance the academic excellence for which this fine institution is known and further the benefits it brings to the Mississippi community as a whole.”
MaxxSouth Broadband is a leading provider of high-speed Internet, cable TV and phone services in north Mississippi and Alabama. With approximately 85,000 subscribers for broadband services, the company continues to expand and enhance its state-of-the-art broadband network in the communities it serves.
“We are very grateful for the generous support of MaxxSouth Broadband,” said Asya Cooley, director of development for MSU Libraries. “Their investment in our university will help promote our vision of delivering first-rate programs of teaching, research and service.”
