‘Capitol Steps’ to perform for Lyceum Series
With the presidential election approaching, Mississippi State’s Lyceum Series is offering a special political season performance Oct. 17.
The Capitol Steps, a Washington, D.C.-based comedy troupe that began as a group of Senate staffers, will present a show based on songs from their current album “What To Expect When You’re Electing” in Lee Hall’s historic Bettersworth Auditorium.
Audience members will see “Hillary Clinton” sing a show tune, “Donald Trump” sing a rock song, and “New Jersey Governor Chris Christie” do a classical ballet. The performance begins at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.
The Capitol Steps provides a unique blend of musical and political comedy, with each show consisting of tasteful lampooning guaranteed to leave both sides of the political spectrum laughing. The troupe started in 1981 and has appeared on “The Today Show,” “Nightline,” “CBS Evening News” and National Public Radio.
Constantly changing their show, the troupe is strenuously bi-partisan, and includes songs about the election madness, as well as other items in the news.
