Dickerson now permanent enrollment leader
John R. Dickerson
Mississippi State’s registrar and a veteran administrator at the university now is his alma mater’s permanent assistant vice president for enrollment.
John R. Dickerson came back to MSU in 2012 to lead the Office of the Registrar. In early 2015, he also became interim head of enrollment.
Before coming back to Starkville as registrar, he had served for seven years as vice president of Copiah-Lincoln Community College’s Simpson County Center in Mendendall.
A 1986 graduate of Jackson’s Jim Hill High School, Dickerson holds MSU master’s and doctoral degrees in counselor education and community college leadership, respectively. He also is a graduate of Mississippi College and Hinds Community College.
Dickerson initially came to MSU in 1997 as associate director for enrollment services after being MC’s associate dean of students. He would earn successive MSU promotions until being named senior associate director for admissions and scholarships, the post he held prior to leaving for the South Mississippi community college.
“We are pleased to have someone with Dr. Dickerson’s experience and background holding this important position,” Julia Hodges said Wednesday [April 20] in announcing the promotion, which is pending formal approval by the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning.
“His previous leadership positions at MSU and his familiarity with the state’s high schools and community colleges should lead to great success in his newest role as assistant vice president for enrollment,” MSU’s interim provost added.
Located in the Office of the Provost and Executive Vice President, the assistant vice president is responsible for supervising offices of the Registrar, Admissions and Scholarships, and Financial Aid.
Continuing interim duties now on a permanent basis, Dickerson oversees strategic planning and implementation of recruitment and retention strategies and retention initiatives, among other areas.
