New golf cart policy promotes gameday safety
To ensure the safety of fans and a continued enjoyable gameday experience for all, a new Mississippi State University policy on the private use of golf carts during campus athletic event days now is in effect.
According to the new guidelines:
--Privately owned golf carts are expected to operate in the same manner as an automobile or other motorized vehicle.
--All golf carts must comply with Mississippi Motor Vehicle and Traffic regulations. (See Miss. Code Annotated Title 63-1-1 seq.).
--Operators of golf carts must possess a valid driver's license and proper insurance.
--Privately owned golf carts may only be operated on streets open for public traffic. Privately owned golf carts will not be allowed access to roadways closed prior to game time, such as Creelman and B.S. Hood streets, and Stone Boulevard.
--Without exception, golf carts are prohibited in tailgating areas such as the Cullis Wade Depot lawn, Fan Fare area, the Junction, West Lawn tent area, or others accessed by roads closed during game day.
--Golf carts may not be driven alongside any closed road or on any sidewalks.
--Golf carts may be driven across sidewalks into non-prohibited tailgating areas to load and unload supplies or to park on the perimeter.
Violation of any of the rules could result in the issuance of traffic citations and other penalties, as outlined by state laws and/or university policies.
All-terrain, four-wheel, farm utility, "gators," and other side-by-side vehicles also are prohibited from campus during gameday periods.
