Free concert of Civil War music Wednesday
A nationally recognized Alabama musician will present a Wednesday, June 22 concert of Civil War tunes at Mississippi State as part of his role in the university's first Social Studies Teachers' Institute.
Bobby Horton will perform popular selections from both the Union and Confederate sides in America's greatest internal conflict. His free program begins at 7 p.m. in the Robert and Freda Harrison Auditorium of Giles Hall, home of the College of Architecture, Art and Design.
"Bobby Horton is, without doubt, the most talented and most famous performer of Civil War music in the nation today," said John F. Marszalek, executive director and managing editor of the campus-based Ulysses S. Grant Association. "MSU and the Starkville community are fortunate to have the opportunity to hear him. No one should miss the chance."
Horton is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, and music historian whose work has been featured in more than 15 compact disc recordings. He has performed throughout the United States individually, as well as with the musical comedy trio, "Three On a String."
His music has been featured on 13 PBS films by Ken Burns including "The Civil War," and "Baseball," two films for the A&E Network, as well as 16 National Park Service films. (For more, visit http://bobbyhorton.com.)
