McLendon to lead SEC Sports Med Committee

Mary McLendon

Mississippi State director of sports medicine Mary McLendon, MESS, ATC/L was elected president of the Southeastern Conference Sports Medicine Committee during the 2015 SEC Sports Medicine Conference in Opelika, Alabama.

McLendon, who has been overseeing the department since 2010, became the first female to be elected president of the committee.

“The athletic trainers and doctors in the SEC are the finest in the nation, and I am very honored that they have elected me to represent them in this position,” McLendon said.

As president, she will serve a two-year term and be the liaison between the SEC office and head athletic trainers at member schools.

While serving as the director of sports medicine for five years, McLendon is wrapping her 19th year in Starkville. In addition to overseeing the daily operations of the sports medicine department, she also supervises the athletic training needs for the Bulldogs’ nationally-ranked women’s basketball program.

The Montgomery, Ala., native came to MSU after serving as a graduate assistant at Florida, where she earned her master’s degree in sport administration.
A member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, McLendon received her bachelor of science degree in kinesiology from the University of Colorado in 1994.
