Craven takes reins at WMSV as interim manager

Anthony Craven

The news and public affairs director at WMSV Radio, 91.1 FM is taking responsibilities as interim manager.

Anthony Craven has been with the non-commercial professionally run radio station located on the campus of Mississippi State University since 2007. He began his new role June 1.

"Continuity in the operation and service of WMSV to the campus and the community is very important, and Anthony Craven brings years of experience to this new interim role as station manager. I have every confidence that Anthony will build on the station's long and distinguished legacy," said Sid Salter, the university's chief communications officer.

Craven has been responsible for all local and national news gathering and reporting on the station and has produced and anchored "Observations from MSU," a daily 30-minute newscast. In addition to doing play-by-play for live sporting events broadcast on the station, he was producer and co-anchor of WMSV's Southeastern Drive Time, a syndicated sports talk show that aired from 2007-2013.

"I'm thankful for this opportunity, and I'm excited because I get to do something I enjoy at a university I love. I am following my broadcasting mentor, Steve Ellis, at WMSV, and I'm grateful for all he taught me over the years," Craven said.

In addition to his WMSV role, Craven serves MSU's athletic department as a public address announcer at all MSU home football games and select MSU baseball, women's basketball and pep rally events. He is a play-by-play broadcaster for MSU softball games on SEC Network + and Hail State Plus.

Established in 1994, WMSV is a 14,000 watt station broadcasting in a 70-mile radius. The station broadcasts 24 hours a day and seven days a week and streams constantly online at wmsv.msstate.edu. The Adult Album Alternative format, known as Triple A, is aimed at the 16-40 year old audience.

Through news and public affairs programming and public service announcements, WMSV promotes activities and educational opportunities available at Mississippi State University. WMSV also offers training and other educational opportunities for student workers, interns and volunteers at MSU.

Craven is taking on the new responsibilities from Ellis, the longtime station manager who retired at the end of May.
