Pannell returns to state board of accountancy
The business manager of Mississippi State's College of Business is a new appointee to the Mississippi State Board of Public Accountancy.
Angela L. Pannell recently was selected by Gov. Haley Barbour to represent the 3rd Congressional District on the seven-member board. She will serve a five-year term on the regulatory body.
At the university, she is responsible for the business operations of one of the land-grant institution's major academic units. The college includes six departments or programs, as well as the Richard C. Adkerson School of Accountancy.
Created by the Mississippi Legislature, the accountancy board works to protect the public welfare of citizens "through oversight and regulation of certified public accountants and toward maintaining the highest standards of proficiency in the profession." Appointees include a representative of the four congressional districts, plus three at-large members.
Pannell is an MSU accounting graduate who went on to earn a master's degree in the major at the University of New Orleans. She worked previously as a public accountant on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Barbour's appointment represents Pannell's second time on the board. Earlier in the decade, Gov. Ronnie Musgrove appointed her as an at-large member.
