Faculty contribute to European ag conference

Four Mississippi State University professors participated in the joint conference of the Association of International Agricultural and Extension Education and the European Seminar on Extension and Education in the Netherlands in late April.

Representing the School of Human Sciences were Susan Seal, an assistant professor in international agricultural and Extension education; and Laura Lemons, an assistant professor of agricultural information sciences and agricultural leadership. James Henderson, associate Extension forestry professor, and Donald Grebner, forestry professor, represented the MSU Forest and Wildlife Research Center.

The Association for International Agricultural and Extension Education was established in 1984 as a professional organization for educators who share a common goal of strengthening agricultural and Extension education programs and institutions worldwide. This year’s conference was in Wageningen, Netherlands, in conjunction with the European Seminar on Extension and Education.

Lemons presented “Examining Knowledge Change and Behavioral Intention of Rural Farmers in Ghana Following an Agricultural Education Workshop,” and Seal presented “Managing Pluralistic Extension Systems in the Dynamic Environments of Sub‐Sahara Africa.”

Grebner and Henderson presented “Economic Contribution of Food and Fiber Calculated Using Input-Output Analysis: Extension Application in the U.S. and Potential for Use in the E.U.” and “Climate Change Related Extreme Weather Events and Risk Management Options for Family Forests.”

In addition to normal conference activities, the MSU faculty participated in wide range of activities that included poster session judging, session moderation, professional development committees and conference-organized tours focused on agriculture issues.
