DAFVM Spotlight Employee: Randy Grayson
After he retired from a career with AT&T, Randy Grayson wanted to stay busy. So he embarked on a new career with the Mississippi State University Extension Service.
Grayson is an office associate in the Jones County office.
“Every day is different,” Grayson said. Being an office associate consists of a large variety of basic to complex office support to the Extension agents.”
Grayson said a typical day consists of greeting and directing visitors as they come into the office, answering telephone calls, routing calls, taking messages, providing general information, sorting incoming and outgoing mail, and preparing photocopies, facsimiles, and excel spreadsheets. He also arranges meetings and conferences for the Extension agents.
“The part of the job I enjoy is helping clients who want to enroll their children in different 4-H programs, sending soil samples for testing, and doing research for clients who need advice on problems with their plants and gardens,” he said.
For Grayson, the client comes first.
“I like dealing with people and I like to satisfy our customers,” he said.
Grayson grew up in Bay Springs and attended MSU. He graduated in 1979 with a degree in business administration. He lived in Houston, Texas for 32 years and upon his retirement, moved back home to Mississippi.
Like many of the Extension clients he serves, he enjoys gardening and working in his yard. He also enjoys going to livestock shows to watch his nieces and nephews show their livestock. Grayson stays active playing tennis and bowling.
