Kight to serve as chief CVM fundraiser

Jimmy C. Kight

Mississippi State alumnus Jimmy C. Kight is the new director of development for the university's College of Veterinary Medicine.

Officially assuming fundraising responsibilities for the academic unit May 1, Kight moves from the College of Business, where he has served since 2010 as assistant director of development.

Though working primarily with veterinary alumni and friends, he will continue to focus on securing gifts for MSU's ongoing capital campaign. Titled "Infinite Impact" and running until 2018, the campaign is approaching $410 million of a $600 million goal.

"Jimmy has a passion for the development profession and Mississippi State University," said Jack McCarty, MSU Foundation executive director of development. "We are confident he will be invaluable as he leads fundraising efforts for the veterinary college and helps advance our university."

Kight began his MSU career in 2007 after receiving a degree in communication. A Philadelphia native, he first worked with the Office of Admissions and Scholarships as a regional in-state admissions counselor for Jackson and surrounding area.

He is married to the former Mary Kathryn Adams, a fellow 2007 communication graduate.

The College of Veterinary Medicine is one of only 28 accredited veterinary colleges in the United States and only one in Mississippi.

Located in the Louis N. Wise Center, the academic unit has gained a national reputation for world-class research in animal and public health, along with high-quality teaching and cutting-edge medical care. It awards bachelor of science degrees in veterinary medical technology, master's degrees, and doctor of veterinary medicine and doctor of philosophy degrees.
