Mago elevated to grade of Fellow in ASME
Pedro Mago
An endowed professor in the Bagley College of Engineering will receive the highest membership honor from an international organization.
Pedro Mago, the Tennessee Valley Authority professor of mechanical engineering, has been selected as a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).
The rank of Fellow is the highest grade of membership in many professional organizations. It is awarded to members who have made a significant impact to their respective fields. Less than 3 percent of ASME members have received this honor.
Mago has been an active ASME member since he joined the Mississippi State faculty in 2003 as an assistant professor. In the heat and energy transfer division of the organization he has been part of several technical committees, helped organize conferences and reviewed technical papers.
His service to the organization and dedication to the field of mechanical engineering prompted the nomination that led to this recognition.
“It is a great honor for me to receive this award because it is recognition from my colleagues that my contributions to research and teaching in mechanical engineering and to ASME are appreciated,” Mago said.
Prior to receiving this honor, Mago earned several awards at Mississippi State to recognize his commitment to research, service and teaching. Most recently, he received the Bagley College of Engineering’s outstanding faculty research award and was named to the Academy of Distinguished Teachers.
Mago earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering at Universidad de Oriente in Venezuela. He also holds master’s and doctoral degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of Florida.
Founded in 1880, ASME develops and sets the codes and standards for mechanical devices to ensure quality and safety across the globe. The organization stresses the importance of improving the quality of life through engineering education and innovation.
