Participants in the 2013 Education for Administrative Support Employees (EASE) program at Mississippi State University took advantage of the opportunity to boost their knowledge during the 12 weeks of training. EASE is designed to provide new administrative support staff with the tools to perform their jobs effectively.

At the beginning of the program in October, the EASE class was given a surprise pre-test during their first meeting to benchmark their level of knowledge. The pre-test scores averaged 60%. At the conclusion of the training sessions, they took a second test to assess progress and knowledge gain, and the scores averaged 86%.

The improved test scores indicate that the participants gained knowledge and learned new skills during the EASE Program.

Session topics included basic department internal controls, communication skills, conflict resolution, diversity, information security, leave, professional image, purchasing, time management, travel and the employment process.

The 2013 EASE graduates are Audrey Bell, office associate, Student Counseling Services; Hannah Burnett, sponsored programs assistant, Sponsored Program Administration; Michelle Carty, business coordinator, Finance and Economics; Undrea Clark, administrative assistant I, Physical Plant Administration; Jana Haggard, accounting assistant, Student Housing; Kathy Johnsey, office associate, Chemistry; Tracy Miller, administrative assistant I, School of Human Sciences; Samantha Nall, office associate, School of Human Sciences/MSCCR&R Network; Robin Pigg, office associate, Office of the Controller/Treasurer; Leilani Salter, administrative assistant II, Mitchell Memorial Library, Dean's Office; Catherine Williams, administrative assistant II, College of Business, Dean's Office; and Joycie Wilson, administrative assistant I, Southwest District Extension Office.

The next EASE Program will be held in the fall. Participants will be invited in August.
