I-Day features former Bush advisor Wednesday
Former Secretary of the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services and three-term Utah Governor Michael O. Leavitt will speak Wednesday as part of Mississippi State's annual Insurance Day program.
The former Bush administration cabinet member will present "Healthcare Reform: Transformation of an Industry" in a 5 p.m. program in the Bettersworth Auditorium of Lee Hall. General admission tickets are $15 and may be purchased in advance only.
Leavitt is the founder and chairman of Leavitt Partners, where he advises clients in the health care and food safety sectors.
In 1993, Leavitt was elected governor of Utah and served three terms from 1993-2003. In 2003, he joined the Cabinet of President George W. Bush to become leader of the Environmental Protection Agency (2003-2005) and then secretary of Health and Human Services (2005-2009).
Each spring, I-Day programs bring more than 600 insurance industry professionals, as well as fire investigators, legislators, municipal and county managers, and law enforcement officials to campus for an event that has become one of Mississippi's largest financial service programs.
Assemblies and continuing education sessions will take place March 29-30, and are sponsored by the university's Peter K. Lutken Chair of Insurance. Co-sponsoring the event is the College of Business and Industry's risk management, insurance and financial planning academic program, which is among the largest of its kind in the U.S.
