New art faculty exhibit runs through Feb. 23

New faculty in Mississippi State's Department of Art are showcasing their artwork during an exhibition running through Feb. 23.

Titled "New Associations: Works by New Faculty in the Department of Art," the show in the gallery in McComas Hall will feature works by Adrienne Callander, Neil Callander, Gregory Martin and Suzanne Powney.

Adrienne Callander is the department's most recent addition as a lecturer in 2-D design and art appreciation. She graduated with a bachelor's degree from Reed College in Portland, Ore., a post-baccalaureate from Maryland Institute College of Art and a master's from the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University.

Before becoming foundations coordinator and the drawing, painting and design assistant professor at MSU, Neil Callander taught painting and drawing at the University of Louisville and Indiana University Southeast. Callander received his bachelor's degree from Indiana University and his master's from the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University. His work has shown in the 2011 WaterTower Regional, the 2011 Paint Snob Invitational in Waco, Texas, and First Look at the New Jersey Center for Contemporary Art.

Martin, assistant professor of drawing and design, received his bachelor's degree in illustration from CSU Long Beach and his master's in painting from Claremont Graduate School. Previously, Martin was a visiting lecturer at Otis College of Art and Design, USC Roski School of Fine Art, and U.C. San Diego Visual Arts.

MSU's new assistant professor of letterpress, graphic design and advertising, Powney received her master's degree from the University of Houston. Her works have exhibited as part of a group show at the University of Houston's Blaffer Art Museum, and she has been a member of the Museum of Printing History Printers Guild and the American Institute of Graphic Design of Houston. She also is the letterpress printer and operator for BlackDog Letterpress.
