NSF program officer visiting campus Friday

The Office of Research and Economic Development at Mississippi State will host Thomas Baerwald from the National Science Foundation's Division of Behavioral and Cognitive Sciences on Friday, Feb. 8.
Baerwald is a senior science advisor; Geography and Spatial Sciences Program Director; Dynamics of Coupled Natural and Human Systems (CNH) Program Director; and Interdisciplinary Behavioral and Social Sciences Research (IBSS) Program Director.
Open to all MSU faculty, researchers, staff and students. Baerwald's presentation, "Funding Opportunities and Proposal-Writing Strategies for Social and Behavioral Science Research at NSF," begins at 10 a.m. in the Bost Extension Center theater.
At 2 p.m. in 612 Allen Hall, Baerwald will meet with faculty one-on-one in 20-minute intervals to allow individuals the opportunity to 'pitch' proposal ideas and receive immediate feedback. Anyone wishing to have a one-on-one session with Baerwald should call Lynn Taylor at 662-325-3168 to schedule a time between 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Baerwald earned a B.A. in geography and history from Valparaiso University and both M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in geography at the University of Minnesota. When he conducted basic research of his own, Baerwald specialized in studies of contemporary metropolitan development processes and urban transportation. He has worked at NSF since 1988.
Baerwald has been elected as a Fellow of the American Academy for the Advancement of Science.
