Thursday presentation celebrates Walter Anderson

Veteran Mississippi State art professor Brent Funderburk will discuss the life and works of one of the state's most famous artists during a free campus program Thursday, Jan. 24.
"Walter Anderson: A World Vision of Art and Nature" will be the topic of his 3:30 p.m. presentation in Giles Hall's Robert and Freda Harrison Auditorium. Funderburk will provide an in-depth look at the lifelong creative investment of the late Jackson County artist, naturalist and writer (1903-65).
Anderson's son, John Anderson, will be in attendance at the university program.
Among other topics, Funderburk will discuss why and how Anderson created thousands of images, some purposefully reproducible and others more carefully crafted, selected and hidden from view.
A North Carolina native and East Carolina State University graduate, Funderburk joined the MSU art faculty in 1982. He is a recognized authority on Anderson and his artistic career.
In 2005, he helped lead a team of MSU faculty members and students who rushed to Ocean Springs after Hurricane Katrina to help save and preserve the artist's works that had not been destroyed by the massive storm.
