'Maroon Edition' Habitat home to be dedicated
Mississippi State and Starkville Area Habitat for Humanity volunteers and officials will dedicate the newly complete Maroon Edition Habitat for Humanity house at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20.
A service learning component of the university's Maroon Edition First-Year Reading Experience, this year's project benefits Daphne Walton and her five children.
The new residence is at 276 Steadman Lane. A tour will be given at the conclusion of the program.
Program speakers include MSU President Mark E. Keenum; Meggan Franks, MSU student leadership program coordinator; and the Rev. Grant Arinder, of Calvary Baptist Church.
Keenum will present the Walton family with a homeowner Bible, and Franks will present an MSU quilt made by Starkville resident Dot Livingston.
Students in the School of Architecture designed this year's house, with additional modifications to meet budget constraints.
MSU student volunteers and members of the Starkville community have worked on the house each Friday and Saturday of the fall semester. The campus Maroon Volunteer Center coordinated the student volunteer efforts.
