Union Art Gallery reception for Press Thursday
The Maroon Edition, along with the College of Architecture, Art and Design and the Colvard Student Union Art Gallery, are excited to announce the photography exhibit by Betty Press, which opened on Sept. 4 and will run through Oct. 12.
Press is a professor of photography at the University of Southern Mississippi. The current exhibition at Mississippi State University features black and white photographs taken during her time living and traveling in East and West Africa since 1987. Press’ stunning photographs demonstrate the importance of proverbs in African society and the close relationship word and image have in inspiring the human spirit.
The reception for "Betty Press: African Wisdom in Image and Proverb" will be held on Thursday, Sept. 27 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Colvard Student Union Art Gallery.
The reception will also include a book signing for her newest book, “I Am Because We Are: African Wisdom in Image and Proverb.” Books are available for purchase at Barnes and Noble Bookstore and will also be available at the reception.
All are welcome and light refreshments will be served.
The Colvard Student Union Art Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. It is located on the second floor of the Colvard Student Union.
