Williams delivering Evers lecture Sept. 20
Michael V. Williams
The African American Studies program at Mississippi State will host MSU assistant professor Michael V. Williams for a Sept. 20 lecture titled "Sit Me Up and Turn Me Loose: Medgar Wiley Evers as Civil Rights Activist, Leader and Martyr in the Fight for Justice."
The lecture will be held in McCool Hall's Taylor Auditorium (Room 124) at 4:30 p.m. A book signing will immediately follow.
Williams and his siblings graduated from a home instructional program developed and implemented by their parents and he later earned a bachelor of arts degree in history and sociology, a master of arts degree in history, and a doctorate degree in history from the University of Mississippi. He was also among the University's first Phi Beta Kappa initiating class.
His research and teaching interests include social and political resistance movements, Civil Rights struggle and conflict, black intellectuals and radicalism, and varied facets of African history.
