Lyceum Series continues Thursday with Ahn Trio

The Lyceum Series at Mississippi State continues Thursday when the world-renowned Ahn Trio brings their special brand of chamber music to the university.
The Thursday performance of the Juilliard School-trained women begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Bettersworth Auditorium of Lee Hall. Born in Seoul, South Korea, the group includes cellist Maria, pianist Lucia and violinist Angella.

Tickets are $15 for adults; $12 for seniors (65 and older) and MSU faculty and staff; and $8 for children 3-12 years old. MSU students are admitted free with valid identification.

A showcase of their vibrant and original music, the trio's latest release, "Lullaby for My Favorite Insomniac" (Sony Masterworks), was No. 8 on the Billboard Charts for 26 weeks in the classical album category.

The sisters won top prizes at the 1992 Alliance Northeast Competition for Chamber Ensembles, as well as the Coleman Chamber Competition, an annual national competition for young performers. They also have been featured in many major publications.

In addition to touring successfully for more than a decade, the Ahns have produced six albums to date. Their first, a collection of Ravel and Villa-Lobos works, brought rave reviews, with Audio Magazine praising it as "one of Ravel's best and never better played." (For more, visit www.ahntrio.com.)

MSU's annual Lyceum Series is supported, in part, with contributions from the Holmes Cultural Diversity Center and Shackouls Honors College. Members of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia fraternity serve as ushers for all performances.
