Chicks with Hits kick off MSU Riley Center Fall/Winter Series on Thursday
Chicks with Hits, an intimate concert featuring three guitars and three stars making gorgeous music together, kicks off the MSU Riley Center’s 2018-2019 Fall/Winter Performing Arts Series on Thursday [Sept. 27] at 7:30 p.m. at the landmark venue in downtown Meridian.
Terri Clark, Pam Tillis and Suzy Bogguss have charted 36 top 10 country singles among them. Those hits include “If I Were You” and “You’re Easy on the Eyes” by Clark, “When You Walk in the Room” and “Mi Vida Loca (My Crazy Life)” by Tillis, “Drive South” and “Hey Cinderella” by Bogguss, and so many more.
All three singers are also longtime friends. Their easygoing rapport creates beautiful vocal harmonies and leads to lots of laughs between the songs.
“We’re hams!,” said Bogguss. “Anybody could tell that we love what we do. We are going to have big fun, and those we have the opportunity to share it with will too!”
Clark is the ringleader.
“I had been thinking about putting together an all-female package like this for a few years,” she said. “There is a short list of women who can play and sing and have the hits to back it up. Pam and Suzy were a great fit.”
They perform acoustically, “guitar pull” style, sitting on stage and trading turns in the spotlight. “Our music blends beautifully,” Tillis said.
“We all have an appreciation for traditional, folk and country rock and share many of the same influences. Between the harmonies and the humor, it’s gonna be pretty darn fun.”
A dozen more shows will follow in the Fall/Winter Performing Arts Series. The Riley Center will present folk, rock, funk, soul, and pop music, three Family Shows of children’s theater, a Christmas show, an imaginative staging of a classic horror story and an electrifying Latin dance troupe. The series concludes on March 29, 2019, with Monterey Jazz Festival on Tour 2019, starring a stunningly virtuosic lineup of young talent.
