'Shadows of the 60’s' brings Motown tribute to MSU Riley Center on Friday
"Shadows of the 60’s: A Tribute to Motown" will bring a blast of nostalgia and musical energy to the MSU Riley Center in downtown Meridian on Friday [May 19] at 7:30 p.m.
The production salutes the great artists of Motown Records, especially The Temptations, The Four Tops and The Supremes. "Shadows of the 60’s" meticulously re-creates the songs’ original arrangements, in the original keys. It stirs memories of an exciting era when an upstart record label out of Detroit produced “The Sound of Young America,” bringing together people of all backgrounds and races in a celebration of soul.
Dave Revels created the show and stars as one of the primary singers, emulating the dramatic vocals of Four Tops lead singer Levi Stubbs. Revels was a member of The Drifters in the 1980s and is the current lead singer, arranger and producer for the a cappella vocal group The Persuasions.
He has assembled a strong cast of musicians and singers, mixing show-biz veterans and eager newcomers for an invigorating blend of experience and enthusiasm. Extravagant costumes, dynamic choreography and lots of audience interaction guarantee a good time.
Tickets are $39 and $33 at the MSU Riley Center Box Office, which is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and an hour before showtime on the day of the show. Tickets can be purchased online at www.msurileycenter.com or by phone through the box office at (601) 696-2200.
