Sherlock Holmes will match wits with rogues at MSU Riley Center next month
The game will most definitely be afoot when the MSU Riley Center in downtown Meridian presents Aquila Theatre in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes on Feb. 12 at 7:30 p.m.
Aquila, founded in London and now based in New York, has built a reputation for presenting classic theater in bold new ways, with a trademark energetic, physical style. This witty, fast-paced production uses an international cast to bring the fabled London investigator and his Victorian London milieu to vivid life.
Doyle, the Scottish physician and writer who created Holmes, imbued the sleuth with some of his own acute powers of observation and deduction. Nearly 130 years after Holmes debuted, he remains the world’s most famous fictional detective.
Stirring the plot in this production is femme fatale Irene Adler, the only woman whom Holmes ever respected. Faithful sidekick Dr. Watson assists the great detective as best he can. Suspense, intrigue, surprising twists, and brilliant deductions abound.
This performance is funded in part by a grant from South Arts in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
Tickets are $27 and $21 at the MSU Riley Center Box Office, which is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets can be purchased online at www.msurileycenter.com or by calling the box office at 601-696-2200.
