'Sleeping Beauty' will charm families at MSU Riley Center on Thursday

Another delightful family show will brighten the MSU Riley Center when Theatre IV on Tour brings a musical adaptation of "Sleeping Beauty" to the stage in downtown Meridian on Thursday [Nov. 5] at 7 p.m.

This version of the classic fairy tale, with script, music, and lyrics by Richard R. Giersch, takes aim primarily at children from kindergarten through fifth grade and their parents. It features plenty of humor, singing and dancing -- and even some royal juggling.

A disgruntled fairy gets upset at not being invited to the christening of a princess. The fairy casts a sleeping spell that will take effect on the eve of the girl’s 17th birthday. Can the king save her, or will he run away and join the circus instead? Will the gifts of the good fairies counteract the spell? Is a palace servant hiding a princely secret?

Theatre IV on Tour performs before more than half a million children, teens and adults every year. A division of Virginia Repertory Theatre of Richmond, it is the only professional theater to be named an affiliate of the Kennedy Center’s national Partners in Education program.

Tickets are $18 for adults and $10 for students at the MSU Riley Center Box Office, which is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets can be purchased online at www.msurileycenter.com or by calling the box office at 601-696-2200.
