Thodos Dance Chicago at MSU Riley Center on Oct. 29

“Breathtakingly athletic.” “Powerfully beautiful.” That’s how critics describe the work of Thodos Dance Chicago, which will perform “A Light in the Dark: The Story of Helen Keller and Anne Sullivan" at the MSU Riley Center in downtown Meridian on Oct. 29 at 7:30 p.m.

Melissa Thodos, who founded the company in 1992, and Broadway legend Ann Reinking co-choreographed the story ballet. The Chicago Sun-Times named it one of the top dances of 2013. The piece features an original score by composer Bruce Wolosoff. The second act of the MSU Riley Center show will showcase several shorter works from the company’s repertoire.

Todos Dance Chicago has toured in 27 states and several foreign countries, drawing international praise as a top contemporary dance company. It embraces a variety of dance forms and focuses on the works of American choreographers, including modern dance icon Sybil Shearer and stage and film innovator Bob Fosse as well as members of its own company. Fans of dance will definitely experience both surprises and delights.

This performance is funded in part by a grant from South Arts in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

Tickets are $30 and $24 at the MSU Riley Center Box Office, which is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets can be purchased online at www.msurileycenter.com or by calling the box office at 601-696-2200.
