Higher education focus of legal issues conference this week
Registration for the annual National Legal Issues Conference at Mississippi State University is quickly filling up. The conference will begin the evening of April 29 with registration at 3 p.m. followed by dinner and the night program 6 p.m., and then ending before lunchtime on May 1.
Guest speakers this year include Peter Lake, an internationally recognized expert on higher education law and policy, as well as two attorneys from the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Civil Rights, Rachel Gettler and Melissa Malonson. There are a variety of compelling topics on the agenda, including Continuing Education for Title IX Compliance; De-escalating Student Crisis Situations; Threat Assessment; 1st Amendment Issues; American Disabilities Act; Clery Act Reporting and Campus Security Authorities; Mandated treatment for students; the Campus SAVE Act; Advising Student Groups; and Responding to campus crisis.
