MSU Riley Center presents Bela Fleck & The Knights
Bela Fleck
The Knights are an orchestral ensemble dedicated to transforming the concert experience. Driven by an open-minded spirit of camaraderie and exploration, they are currently collaborating with renowned banjo player Bela Fleck to present audiences with a new experience in classical music.
Bela Fleck & The Knights will take the stage at the MSU Riley Center in downtown Meridian on Feb. 6 at 7:30 p.m. for an evening of contemporary classical music performed by premier musicians in their field.
The roster of The Knights boasts a remarkable diversity of talents. Members are composers, arrangers, singer-songwriters and improvisers who bring a range of cultural influences to the group, from jazz and klezmer to pop and indie rock music. They engage listeners and defy boundaries with programs that encompass their roots in the classical tradition and passion for musical discovery
The Knights frequently collaborate with leading artists including cellist Yo-Yo Ma, soprano Dawn Upshaw, violinist Itzhak Perlman, fiddler Mark O'Connor, and now Fleck.
As his 15 Grammys attest, Fleck is considered one of the most innovative pickers in the world and has done much to demonstrate the versatility of his instrument, which he uses to play everything from traditional bluegrass to progressive jazz to classical. He is an ideal collaborator with The Knights since both are at the forefront of the future of classical music in America.
