Seminar to offer tips for better scores from federal grant review panels
Join the Office of Research and Economic Development at Mississippi State for a How to Get Good Scores from Federal Grant Review Panels seminar on Tuesday [Nov. 4] from 3-4:30 p.m. in the Bost Extension Center theater.
Most applications for federal grants are reviewed and scored by a group of people who have expertise in the subject area for which a grant is requested from outside the government agency. These review panels are a key influence on the grant decisions made by the federal agency.
While many may spend time lobbying program officers because "people give to people," determining who gets federal money is supposed to be a much more objective process. It's therefore incumbent upon writers to fully understand the federal review process and who will be making those decisions before wading into an elaborate and time-consuming federal proposal.
The application review is the single most important component in the overall review process in deciding whether a proposal will be among those that are funded or those that are not.
For this ORED Seminar Series session, a panel of seasoned Mississippi State faculty who have secured funding from federal agencies, such as the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, USDA and U.S. Department of Education will provide insight about how to gain better scores with reviewers for these specific agencies.
Panelists include Steve Pruett, Daniel Wong, Dan Peterson, Brian Baldwin and Robert Moorhead.
