New adoption/foster leave benefit to start July 1 for eligible employees
Mississippi State University will begin offering a new adoption/foster leave benefit on July 1.
Senate Bill 2084, which was signed by Gov. Phil Bryant in March, allows for four-year, state university employees to use up to six weeks of earned major medical leave for adoption or foster care placement of a child within one year of placement.
Mississippi will be one of just a few states in the South with such a benefit for its university employees. Initiated by MSU's Work-Life Balance Committee, this legislation was made possible through the committee's efforts, as well as MSU's Human Resources Management, MSU's Office of General Counsel, the human resources departments at Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning, and the Office of Mississippi's State Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL).
