University unveils new, bold path toward ‘Taking Care of What Matters’
Mississippi State University elevated its new branding campaign last week while also introducing Transforming MSU, a blueprint that boldly re-envisions the university’s role and impact in solving some of the world’s most critical challenges, including those close to home. MSU President Mark E. Keenum and Provost and Executive Vice President David R. Shaw detailed the new blueprint for campus leaders during a morning celebration that emphasized the university’s newest tagline, “Taking Care of What Matters.” Keenum said it’s imperative leaders in higher education adapt to an ever-changing landscape.
MSU to create Mississippi Institute on Disabilities, broadening support, research, interdisciplinary collaboration
Mississippi State’s College of Education has the green light from the state’s higher education board to open an innovative institute focused on support and opportunity for people with disabilities in the Magnolia State. The Mississippi Institute on Disabilities will bring the T.K. Martin Center for Technology and Disability and the Autism and Developmental Disabilities Clinic under a unifying moniker, creating a hub for research, training and cross-campus collaboration. Additionally, more academic units, faculty and labs within the College of Education -- and campuswide -- will have a path for affiliating with the institute, or MIoD, approved in March by the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning Board of Trustees.
MSU Extension Service work relief teams assist with storm aftermath
On hot days, Robert Thompson’s beef cows used to retreat to a cluster of trees in the middle of his pasture for shade. The 24-head herd will have to cool down elsewhere now as two towering brush and limb piles have replaced the resting area. Clearing a new place for the cows is one of many tasks facing Thompson after an EF-3 tornado chewed through the 18-acre grazing area in Monroe County during a March 25 severe weather outbreak. A clear day and some extra labor allowed him to rebuild the new fencing so his cows could return to a full pasture less than a week after the storm passed. The assistance that day came from a work relief team from the Mississippi State University Extension Service
