Maroon Institute for Writing Excellence sign-up open
The Maroon & Write QEP Office at Mississippi State will offer the Maroon Institute for Writing Excellence in May. The program is designed to introduce writing-to-learn strategies for use in the classroom. During this three-week interactive workshop, participants will receive guidance in revising syllabi and creating relevant writing assignments.

MPB to feature Ragtime Jazz Festival special
Mississippi Public Broadcasting viewers can enjoy musical performances and artist interviews during broadcasts of the Charles Templeton Ragtime Jazz Festival, an annual event presented by Mississippi State University Libraries and the Charles Templeton Sr. Music Museum. The 30-minute television special will air Friday and again on Sunday.

Nominations wanted for Powe, research awards
The nomination period is now open for Mississippi State University's 2016 Research Awards and the Ralph E. Powe Research Excellence Award. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to submit nominations for this year's program. Recipients will be honored during a special luncheon at the Hunter Henry Center on April 28.

A farewell to an icon, a hello to some energetic newcomers and lots of heartwarming rock ’n’ roll memories will highlight the 2016 spring/summer series at the MSU Riley Center in historic downtown Meridian. The center's restored Victorian theater will also host the world’s best dancers, one of the most powerful voices in country music, and the returns of both an intimate songwriters showcase and a beloved children’s character.

Softball hosts Georgia Southern at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday to open play in the Bulldog Kickoff with games following on Friday at 5:30 p.m. vs. Houston, on Saturday at 2 p.m. vs. Tennessee Tech and at 4:30 p.m. against Alabama A&M, and on Sunday at 11 a.m. vs. Houston... Women's Basketball visits College Station on Thursday for a 6 p.m. tipoff against Texas A&M... Track & Field competes Friday and Saturday at the Vanderbilt Invitational in Nashville... International Institute awards eight faculty grants
The International Institute at Mississippi State has awarded eight faculty grants as part of its inaugural International Working Group program. Successful proposals coincided with the university’s strategic research focus areas, including environmental sustainability, food safety and health, and international development.
Funderburk among publication’s ‘25 Best’
A longtime faculty member in Mississippi State’s College of Architecture, Art and Design again is receiving recognition from a major art and design publication. Professor Brent Funderburk’s mixed-media painting collection, “Palladio’s Dream: New Solar Myths,” was among works by 25 artists from around the world that were judged worthy of inclusion in the Fine Art category of Creative Quarterly: The Journal of Art and Design’s Best 100 Annual 2015.
Deavenports’ $3M gift moves campaign past goal
A new $3 million gift from Earnest W. “Earnie” Deavenport Jr. and his wife, Mary Ann, of Kiawah Island, S.C., will support student scholarships at Mississippi State University through the ongoing Infinite Impact campaign. “Mississippi State University gratefully acknowledges Earnie and Mary Ann Deavenports’ continued generosity and commitment to assist their home state,” said John P. Rush, vice president for development and alumni and president and CEO of the MSU Foundation.
