Research station earns national respect
The All-America Selections organization named a Mississippi State University experiment station as one of the top landscape gardens in North America. The MSU Truck Crops Branch Experiment Station in Crystal Springs placed second among gardens that receive 10,000 to 100,000 visitors annually. Personnel at the station represent the MSU Extension Service and the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station.
‘Best in Show’ exhibit open through Dec. 2
Poster creations in which artists explore the theme of “man’s best friend” are on display through Dec. 2 at Mississippi State. Titled “Best in Show,” the exhibition at the university’s Visual Art Center Gallery is free and open to all. The gallery is located at 808 University Drive.
Travel photographer Gary Arndt to visit
Internationally recognized and self-taught travel photographer Gary Arndt will speak Nov. 18 at Mississippi State. Free to all, his presentation begins at 6 p.m. in the Bettersworth Auditorium of historic Lee Hall. The program is part of International Education Week, an annual observance organized by the Richard Holmes Cultural Diversity Center.
MRC issues call for working group proposals
The Mississippi Research Consortium has issued a call for working group proposals to identity potential statewide research initiatives enabling multi-disciplinary research programs that capitalize on existing and potential strengths in Mississippi and increase the breadth and depth of research at the MRC institutions.
NSF offers update on public access commitment
With the release of the Public Access plan, "Today’s Data, Tomorrow’s Discoveries," the National Science Foundation continues its commitment to expand public access to the results of its funded research. In accordance with its stated plan, NSF will make the published results of federally funded research freely available to the public within one year of publication.
Volunteers needed for two 5K races this week
The Maroon Volunteer Center at Mississippi State details a number of volunteer opportunities for the campus community on its website and in its newsletter this week, including the SVA Veterans Day 5K on Wednesday and the Camp Seminole Trail 5K Glow Run on Friday, new Habitat for Humanity shifts, ACCESS program peer mentors, local food pantries, and more. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to make a difference by volunteering this fall.
