Representatives from Ellucian, the company that provides a range of higher education software and services including Banner, spent several days on campus last week for meetings with Mississippi State staff who work with student recruitment and admissions, as well as Information Technology Services professionals. The team is planning to deploy a new student recruiting system later this year.
Follett, Harris named HEADWAE honorees
Holland Faculty Senate President Randolph F. "Randy" Follett and Student Association President Brett R. Harris are Mississippi State's 2015 HEADWAE faculty and student honorees. An acronym for Higher Education Appreciation Day, Working for Academic Excellence, the program has been held since 1987.
Outstanding Women' nominations due Tuesday
Nominations for the 2015 Outstanding Women Awards Program, sponsored by the President's Commission on the Status of Women at Mississippi State, are due Tuesday. These awards recognize women who are advocates for the well-being, development and advancement of all women on the university's campuses and the surrounding communities. MSU faculty, staff and students are invited to nominate campus and community women for the awards.
HRM search committee workshop on Friday
Human Resources Management at Mississippi State will host a "Successful Search Committees Guaranteed" workshop with noted HR practitioner Chris Lee of SearchCommittees.com on Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Colvard Student Union's Fowlkes Auditorium. MSU academic and non-academic administrators, faculty and staff who have served or plan to serve on a search committee are invited to attend this free session.
'Safety stand-down' deadline for labs nears
In a continuing effort to meet best practices at Mississippi State, the university's Office of Research and Economic Development and the Division of Agriculture, Forestry and Veterinary Medicine are requiring all principal investigators who conduct research at Biosafety Level 2 to participate in a phased plan in support of a federal "safety stand-down." The deadline is March 13.
Take advantage of spring volunteer opportunities
The Maroon Volunteer Center at Mississippi State details a number of volunteer opportunities for the campus community on its website and in its newsletter this week, including details about alternative spring break in the Delta, Boys & Girls Club tutoring, Emerson's Fresh Start program, and more. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to make a difference by volunteering this spring.
Deadline nears for Spirit of State nominations
Applications and nominations are now being accepted for the 10th-annual Spirit of State awards. These awards are open to all Mississippi State students from all campuses and recognize excellence in campus involvement; service to the university community; actions that promote the Spirit of State; and overall impact on peers and the broader campus community. All forms should be submitted online by Wednesday.
New series offers advice on food, lifestyle choices
The Mississippi State University Extension Service recently launched a new video series to help Mississippi families make informed choices about food, nutrition and healthy lifestyles. “The Food Factor” offers research-based information on topics such as home canning, food safety, emergency preparedness and nutritional science.

The Bulldogs are coming off arguably the greatest regular season in school history, winning 10 games, ascending to No. 1 for five straight weeks for the first time and recording their highest Associated Press Poll finish since 1940.
