Staff Council to hold annual jacket sale
Staff Council at Mississippi State University will hold its annual jacket sale in November with special area pre-orders accepted until Oct. 24. The jackets are available for all MSU staff to purchase. The gray jacket features a quarter or full zip, front pockets and open hem with shock-cord drawstring and MSU Staff Logo. All jacket sizes are $30 each.
State Department officer to lead seminars Thursday
The Office of Research Security and the International Institute at Mississippi State will co-host Elizabeth Neil on campus Thursday afternoon. A Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State, the Mississippi State graduate will present two seminars open to all students, faculty and staff.
MSU, Tougaloo sign MOU to enhance STEM
Mississippi State University and Tougaloo College signed a memorandum of understanding last week to enhance educational and research opportunities in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, collectively known as STEM. MSU President Mark E. Keenum said he looks for great things to come to the two schools in the days ahead. "We are immensely honored and proud to partner with Tougaloo, a very prestigious college that we can partner with for the future of our students," Keenum said.
MSU, ERDC launch major research initiative
A new partnership between the state's flagship research university and one of the nation's premier research centers will create a hub to develop advanced systems that enhance existing industries, attract new jobs, and bolster national defense capabilities, according to Mississippi State's chief executive.
"Today's ceremony marks the formal beginning of what I am confident will soon be recognized as a premier national center of excellence in systems engineering," President Mark E. Keenum said last week.
Continuing accreditation for Counseling Center
Officials in Mississippi State's Division of Student Affairs are congratulating members of the Student Counseling Center staff for successfully completing a detailed re-accreditation process. Bill Broyles, the division's interim vice president, said the re-accreditation "is an affirmation of the tremendous work being done by our Student Counseling Center."
Information security experts to lead Nov. 6 seminar
Join the Office of Research and Economic Development for "Who Is Keeping Your Information Secure? And How?" on Nov. 6 from 2-3:30 p.m. in the Bost Extension Center theater. During the session, a panel of Mississippi State information security experts will speak to the most critical issues and practices of information security today. MSU's Tommy Morris, Tom Ritter, Trey Breckenridge and Dave Dampier will lead the discussion.
Vaccines help protect against flu, childhood illnesses
Mississippi health professionals agree vaccinations protect public health, and there should be no debate on the fact. David Buys, health specialist with the Mississippi State University Extension Service, said most people who choose not to get vaccinations for themselves or their children are basing their decisions on misinformation and myths. Buys said flu vaccines significantly reduce the risk of flu spreading throughout a community.

International working group grant program open
The International Institute is requesting proposals from faculty and research and Extension staff interested in creating interdisciplinary, cross-college international working groups at Mississippi State. The main goal of this competitive program is to encourage interdisciplinary international research. A secondary goal of the program is to expand and catalyze established international partnerships.
University hosting PERS seminar in mid-November
Human Resources Management at Mississippi State is hosting a Public Employees’ Retirement System of Mississippi pre-retirement, full-day seminar on Nov. 19 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Bost Extension Center on the Starkville campus. The seminar offers general information on a range of topics, including estate planning, the Mississippi Deferred Compensation Plan and Trust, Social Security benefits, and PERS benefits and options. Health plan to see tobacco use changes in 2015
Human Resources Management at Mississippi State reminds all benefits-eligible MSU employees enrolled in the State and School Employees' Health Plan that they were recently mailed a current "Know Your Benefits" newsletter from the Mississippi Department of Finance and Administration. One of the important changes DFA's board of directors approved is a new $50 per month Tobacco Use Surcharge beginning July 1, 2015.
