Maroon Alert: Sharing emergency updates with MSU
Every spring, weather becomes more of a factor in our day-to-day lives at Mississippi State. The Maroon Alert system is how we communicate with the campus community about emergency situations. Maroon Alert is a family of communication outlets to communicate about emergency situations. In most situations the primary means of communication are web, e-mail, Twitter via @maroonalert and sometimes instant messaging.

Library expands hours for final exams
As the spring semester at Mississippi State nears a close and final exams are set to begin, Mitchell Memorial Library has adjusted its hours of operation. Starting Sunday at 1 p.m., the library will be open 24 hours a day until May 8 at 4:45 p.m. in support of student needs during the spring exam period.

MSU Extension Service marks its first century
Most centenarians are slowing down and avoiding modern technology, but the Mississippi State University Extension Service is doing neither as it approaches its 100th birthday. “Although the foundational goals established in the Smith-Lever Act of 1914 remain essential in our mission, Mississippi State’s Extension Service agents understand the issues in their communities, and they have taken advantage of the many options for delivering life-changing information,” said director Gary Jackson.

Faculty leadership program seeks nominations
In the upcoming 2014-2015 academic year, the Office of Research and Economic Development and the Office of the Provost and Executive Vice President at Mississippi State will again be conducting an Academic Leadership Orientation Program for selected faculty. This program has been very successful in the past, and many of its participants serve in key leadership positions on campus. Nominations for the program are now being accepted.

Baseball hosts Jacksonville State on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., and then visits Auburn for an SEC weekend series against the Tigers with games on Friday, 6 p.m.; Saturday, 6 p.m.; and Sunday, 1 p.m.... Softball travels to Baton Rouge for an SEC weekend series against LSU with games on Friday, 6 p.m.; Saturday, 6 p.m.; and Sunday, 1 p.m.... Track & Field hosts the Jace Lacoste Invitational on Saturday.

Toghiani receives SEC Faculty Achievement Award
A senior Mississippi State engineering professor and researcher is among selections for 2014 Southeastern Conference Faculty Achievement Awards. At the university, Hossein Toghiani holds the rank of Thomas B. Nusz Endowed Professor in the Dave C. Swalm School of Chemical Engineering. In addition to each receiving a $5,000 honorarium, Toghiani and the 13 other winners become nominees for this year's SEC Professor of the Year Award.
U. of Florida names Berk distinguished alumnus
The director of the Mississippi State University School of Architecture has been selected by the University of Florida to receive the 2014 Distinguished Architecture Alumni Award. F.L. Crane Endowed Professor Michael A. Berk, AIA, is a 1981 graduate of the University of Florida. Florida’s College of Design,
 Construction and Planning honors recipients in each
 of its five units annually with this award.
Faculty receive awards from national organization
Three Bagley College of Engineering faculty members earned recognition from a national organization for their dedication to engineering and engineering education. Dave Dampier received the 2014 Outstanding Teaching Award from the American Society for Engineering Education Southeast Section. John Brocato was presented the Outstanding Campus Representative Award, and Islam El-adaway received second place in the New Faculty Research category.
University fit-friendly for employees, AHA says
Mississippi State's ongoing work to promote healthy lifestyles has been recognized by a leading national advocacy organization. The American Heart Association has designated MSU a Gold Fit-Friendly Worksite based on the university's wide range of fit-friendly opportunities for employees that have helped to create a "culture of wellness" on campus, according to the AHA.
