Apply today: Maroon Institute for Writing Excellence
The Maroon & Write QEP Office is pleased to offer the Maroon Institute for Writing Excellence in June. The MIWE is designed to introduce writing-to-learn strategies for use in the classroom. During this three-week interactive workshop, participants will receive guidance in revising syllabi and creating relevant writing assignments. Participants will meet 1-3 p.m. Monday-Thursday, June 5-26. The application deadline is March 7.

University hosting PERS seminar Wednesday
Human Resources Management at Mississippi State is hosting a PERS pre-retirement, full-day seminar on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bost Extension Center on the Starkville campus. The seminar offers general information on a range of topics, including estate planning, the Mississippi Deferred Compensation Plan and Trust, Social Security benefits, and PERS benefits and options.

MVC presents Interfaith Movie Night
The Maroon Volunteer Center at Mississippi State details a number of volunteer opportunities for the campus community in its current newsletter, including Interfaith Movie Night on Monday, Girl Scouting in the School Day, Habitat for Humanity shifts, Rock the Cradle 5K, and the Chick-fil-a race series to benefit Palmer Home for Children.

Nominations wanted for Powe, research awards
The nomination period is open for Mississippi State University's 2014 Research Awards and the Ralph E. Powe Research Excellence Award. Employees and students are encouraged to submit nominations for this year's program. Complete nomination packets for all awards are due in the Office of Research and Economic Development on or before March 3.

Baseball hosts Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday and Wednesday at 4 p.m., and then hosts the Polk's Meat Products Diamond Classic at Dudy Noble Field with games against Michigan State at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Eastern Illinois, 11 a.m. and Michigan State, 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, and Eastern Illinois at 3 p.m. on Sunday... Men's Basketball hosts Tennessee on Wednesday at 7 p.m., and then travels to Columbia for a 12:30 p.m. tipoff against Missouri on Sunday... Track & Field competes at the SEC Championships at College Station beginning Thursday... Women's Basketball hosts Kentucky on Thursday at 7 p.m., and then visits Athens on Sunday for a game with Georgia... Men's Tennis hosts Alabama at 2 p.m. on Friday and Auburn at 1 p.m. on Sunday... IHL names Sullivan 'Diversity Educator of Year'
Rani Warsi Sullivan, a Mississippi State associate professor of aerospace engineering, was named the 2014 Diversity Educator of the Year by the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning last week. The board celebrated Black History Month with a Feb. 20 ceremony in Jackson and honored university faculty and staff from colleges and universities around the state.

Maroon Alert: Sharing emergency updates with MSU
During this time of year, weather becomes more of a factor in our day-to-day lives at Mississippi State University. The Maroon Alert system is how we communicate with the campus community about emergency situations that may arise on campus. Maroon Alert is a family of communication outlets to communicate about emergency situations. In most situations the primary means of communication are web, e-mail, Twitter via @maroonalert and sometimes instant messaging.

Nominations due Tuesday for women awards
Nominations are now being accepted for the 2014 Outstanding Women Awards Program, sponsored by the President's Commission on the Status of Women. These awards recognize women who are advocates for the well being, development and advancement of all women on Mississippi State University campuses and the surrounding communities. MSU faculty, staff and students are invited to nominate campus and community women for the awards. Nominations are due Tuesday.
