ITAR and OPSEC training blitz starts Tuesday
The Office of Research Security at Mississippi State is having an ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) and OPSEC (Operations Security) training blitz during October and November. There will three presentations of "Working with ITAR" and "OPSEC - What, Who, Why, When and How." The presentations will be conducted at the High Performance Computing Collaboratory in the Cochran Research Park. The sessions start this Tuesday.

Benefits open enrollment underway
Benefits open enrollment is now available for eligible Mississippi State University employees. Open enrollment is required only if you are adding new coverage, changing existing coverage or canceling coverage. If you aren’t adding new coverage, changing existing coverage or canceling coverage, you do not need to participate in open enrollment, and your current benefits will continue into 2014.

When Theatre MSU draws the curtain to begin its 50th season, the milestone will be especially meaningful to those who have invested blood, sweat and tears into hundreds of productions and helped grow a program that has impacted thousands of students. The Mississippi State communication department's seventh annual golf tournament to raise funds for university scholarships tees off Oct. 18 at the MSU Institute of Golf. "This year, we again are dedicating tournament proceeds to our Lora Defore Memorial Scholarships that support student internships around the country," said department head John Forde.

University names Davis alumni director
Jeff Davis, a veteran alumni association executive at Steven F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas, is being named Mississippi State University's executive director of the alumni association. "Engaging our alumni is a core mission and I'm confident that Jeff Davis is capable of leading an already successful MSU Alumni Association to the next level," said MSU President Mark E. Keenum.
Peterson takes leadership roles in societies
Daniel G. Peterson, director of the Institute for Genomics, Biocomputing and Biotechnology and a professor in the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences at Mississippi State University, has taken on leadership roles in two prominent plant biology societies -- the International Cotton Genome Initiative and the American Society for Plant Biologists.
Visiting faculty travel grant applications due Friday
The Southeastern Conference Visiting Faculty Travel Grant Program is intended to enhance faculty collaboration that stimulates scholarly initiatives between SEC universities. Mississippi State University can select a maximum of four faculty members to receive 2014 travel grants of $2,500 each for transportation, room, board, etc., to use for travel to another SEC campus. Completed applications must be submitted by Friday.
Friday deadline for collaborative research grants
The Office of Research and Economic Development is again soliciting proposals from Mississippi State faculty who desire to create interdisciplinary, cross-college research groups on campus. These grants will be in the amount of $2,000 each and limited to a period of 12 months (renewable one time for a total of 24 months and $4,000). The grants are intended to facilitate interdisciplinary interaction between faculty and students that have a common research theme. Proposals must be submitted by Friday.
