Forde new instructional systems/workforce head
Connie M. Forde is the new head of the instructional systems and workforce development department at Mississippi State. A veteran member of the department, Forde has been serving as the technology teacher education and information technology services undergraduate coordinator and the graduate coordinator.
Poultry science names Beck department head
Mary Beck has been selected as the new head of the Department of Poultry Science at Mississippi State University. Beck has served as a professor at Clemson University's College of Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences since 2007.
Stuedeman elected to Huntingdon's Hall of Fame
A determination to play softball at the collegiate level led current Mississippi State head softball coach Vann Stuedeman to be inducted into the Huntingdon College Athletic Hall of Fame during an Oct. 8 ceremony.
Bracelets support university's United Way campaign
It is now easier than ever to show your spirit for both Mississippi State University and the United Way by purchasing a "Grindin' for My State/This is Our State" bracelet. The bracelets are only $5 each, and proceeds help support the agencies of the United Way of North Central Mississippi.
FBI biosecurity workshop on campus Tuesday
Biosecurity and safety will be examined in detail this week during a free workshop at Mississippi State. Experts from the FBI will be at the university Tuesday to share information and provide training for researchers, faculty, staff and students, as well as law enforcement officers. Area first responders, health care providers and biotech company employees also are invited to participate.
Two flu shot clinics this week
University Health Services has scheduled a series of flu shot clinics this fall, and the next one will be held Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the lobby of Herbert Hall. One is also set for Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the first floor of Allen Hall. In order to keep our campus healthy, everyone is urged to get a flu shot.
Food for Thought: Roundtable discussion on menu
The President's Commission on the Status of Women and the President's Commission on the Status of Minorities will present "Minorities and Women at Mississippi State University: A Roundtable Discussion" for October's Food for Thought luncheon this Wednesday.

The Office of Diversity and Equity Programs at Mississippi State has launched a new website that provides another platform for connecting with the campus community, according to director Tommy Stevenson.
Sign-up continues for Heart Health Symposium
Mississippi State employees are invited to learn more about living a heart-healthy lifestyle at the 2011 Heart Health Education Symposium, which will be held on campus Oct. 27, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., in the Foster Ballroom of Colvard Student Union. The free symposium includes lunch.
Benefits open enrollment through Oct. 25
Benefits open enrollment for eligible Mississippi State employees will be held Oct. 1-25, according to Human Resources Management. Open enrollment changes include adding new coverage, changing existing coverage or canceling coverage. The changes become effective Jan. 1, 2012.
Eudora Welty exhibit on display at MSU Libraries
"Eudora Welty: Mississippi Daughter," an exhibit in conjunction with Mississippi State University's Maroon Edition, is on display on Mitchell Memorial Library's 2nd and 3rd floors through December 2011 and highlights the literary career of Mississippi's much-honored author.
In time for the holidays: Jack Cristil's biography
Orders are now being accepted for the biography of Mississippi State's legendary sports broadcaster. "Jack Cristil: The Voice of the Bulldogs" is written by university alumnus and veteran newsman Sid Salter. Best-selling author and fellow alumnus John Grisham is providing the book's foreword.
