Sandra Eksioglu and Bill Elmore

Two Bagley College of Engineering faculty members have earned positions in the college's Academy of Distinguished Teachers.

Sandra Eksioglu, an assistant professor in industrial and systems engineering, and Bill Elmore, an associate professor in chemical engineering, were announced as the academy's newest members during an April ceremony.

This year's honorees were chosen based on nomination letters from Mississippi State administrators, faculty and students, which highlighted their dedication to the college and their fields of study.

Eksioglu joined the college in 2005. She received the 2010 MSU StatePride Faculty Award and the BCoE Hearin Faculty Excellence Award the same year. Her research specializes in supply chain management and efficiency.

She serves as chair of the BCoE's Transportation Working Group and is adviser for the MSU student chapter of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences, for which she earned the organization's 2010 Moving Spirit Award. Eskioglu holds a bachelor's in business administration from University of Tirana, Albania; a master's in economics and management sciences from Mediterranean Agronomics Institute of Chania, Greece; and a doctoral degree in industrial engineering from the University of Florida.

Elmore joined the BCoE in 2005. He holds the Hunter Henry Chair and also serves as associate director of the Dave C. Swalm School of Chemical Engineering. He devotes much of his time to researching engineering education including ways to improve engineering research, outreach and service learning, as well as directing renewable fuels research for students.

He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and has been recognized for his work as a student adviser. He serves his department as undergraduate coordinator and adviser for the student chapter of AIChE. Elmore holds bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in chemical engineering from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.

The BCoE Academy of Distinguished Teachers was established in 2006 to recognize faculty members who have gone beyond traditional ideas to help encourage, support and challenge students in order to ensure each individual's future success in the field of engineering.
