Forde co-chairing Universal Accreditation Board

Associate Professor and Department of Communication Head John Forde, APR, Fellow PRSA, has been appointed co-chair of the Universal Accreditation Board (UAB), the leading certification body for the public relations profession.

Last fall, Forde was elected to the College of Fellows of the Public Relations Society of America, becoming the first Fellow among the 600 members of the Public Relations Association of Mississippi.

In addition to Forde's appointment, the UAB named six new members to its board. The UAB administers the Examination for Accreditation in Public Relations and coordinates all activities related to the Accredited in Public Relations (APR) designation. The UAB was established in 1998 by a coalition of public relations professional organizations.

"The professionals appointed in 2011 to the UAB bring a wealth of industry knowledge and experience from the military, education and private sector," Forde said. "We'll rely on this collective pool of talent to keep the Accredited in Public Relations credential as the true standard of individual achievement in public relations."

Forde earned a doctorate in communication (minor in educational administration) from the University of Southern Mississippi, a master's degree in public relations (minor in marketing) from USM, a bachelor's degree from MSU in communication with a public relations concentration, and an associate degree from Jones County Junior College.

He has been a member of the Mississippi State faculty since 1987.
