ORS now offering fingerprint scanning

The Office of Research and Economic Development at Mississippi State University recently purchased Cogent/3M electronic fingerprint scanning equipment.

Installation of the equipment in the Office of Research Security is now complete, according to ORS Director Neil Lewis, the university's facility security officer.

"We installed the scanner to meet a requirement for submitting clearance requests to the U.S. government from MSU students, faculty and staff. Starting in 2013, the Office of Personnel Management will no longer accept the 'ink and roll' method of fingerprinting because there are too many instances of fingerprints being rejected with that method," he said.

The new equipment has the capability of taking fingerprints to meet the FBI FD-258 form requirements only.
