Fall Thursday night game schedule changes

Mississippi State employees will see a schedule change this fall in order to accommodate the large number of fans and visitors expected when the Starkville campus hosts a Thursday night football game.

Classes for Sept. 15, when the Bulldogs play LSU in an ESPN Thursday night broadcast, have been canceled. All non-essential staff will be released at noon that day. Staff members should check with their supervisors to determine if they will be needed in the afternoon.

Classes and normal business operations will resume Friday, Sept. 16.

These recommendations approved by President Mark Keenum were made by the Thursday Night Football Game Committee, which was chaired by Faculty Senate President Hart Bailey. Walter Diehl, Peter Ryan, Thomas Sellers, Butch Stokes, Scott Strickin and Mary Vaughn served as committee members.

In addition:

Scheduling of Fall Break: Fall break will consist of the first two days of the week of Thanksgiving: Monday, Nov. 21, and Tuesday, Nov. 22. Thus, there will be no classes for students during the week of Thanksgiving. The university will be open Nov. 21, 22 and 23

Last Day of Class: The last day of class in the Fall 2011 semester will be Friday, Dec. 2. This will give a full week of classes after returning from Thanksgiving. Final exams will begin on Monday, Dec. 5 and extend through Friday, Dec. 9. Commencement will be on Friday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m.
