Egg Ball serves up fun, child assistance this month

A variety of auction items will be available for purchase Nov. 25 during the second Mississippi KIDS COUNT Egg Ball at Mississippi State's Hunter Henry Center.

Based at the university, Mississippi KIDS COUNT is the leading resource for comprehensive research and information on the state's children.

As with the inaugural event last year, proceeds from the 7-11 p.m. silent- and live-auction program will aid the state's young people, as well as families and entire communities.

Musical entertainment for the evening will be provided by The King Beez, a popular rhythm and blues band from Memphis, Tenn.

"Putting on a great party in Starkville the night before MSU hosts the Egg Bowl is very exciting, and we're expecting a big turnout," said event committee member Nelle Cohen.

"What makes it even better is that the proceeds will benefit this important program at Mississippi State," the Mississippi KIDS COUNT advisory board member added.

Individual tickets are $60, and heavy hors d'oeuvres will be served. Attire is casual, which should be convenient for those planning to attend that evening's MSU men's basketball game at Humphrey Coliseum.

Ball tickets are available at the Greater Starkville Development Partnership office in downtown Starkville or online at www.2011eggball.com.

"Once again, we've managed to acquire lots of unique and fun items you can't get anywhere else," Cohen said. "Anyone looking for one-of-a-kind holiday gifts needs to be there, and I'm looking forward to working off my Thanksgiving dinner on the dance floor with friends as we support this great cause."

Among auction items:

--A basketball autographed by University of Tennessee women's coach Pat Summitt;

--A Crested Butte, Colo., vacation package;

--A cast-signed laboratory coat from the hit TV series "CSI: NY;"

--Individual cowbells autographed by Food Network star Paula Deen and former U.S. President George Bush;

--Dinner for two at Starkville's Restaurant Tyler with MSU Athletic Director Scott Stricklin and wife Anne, MSU Football Coach Dan Mullen and wife Megan, and MSU Baseball Coach John Cohen and wife Nelle;

--A Taylor Swift music package; and

--Two tickets to the men's semi-final round at the Regions-Morgan Keegan Tennis Championship in Memphis.

Funded in part by the Annie E. Casey Foundation, Mississippi KIDS COUNT operates under the MSU Social Science Research Center's Family and Children Research Unit. It works to investigate issues affecting the health, safety and well-being of children and families. (For more, visit www.ssrc.msstate.edu/mskidscount/.)
