McIntosh named Arts and Sciences fundraiser

Mississippi State's College of Arts and Sciences is announcing a new development director.

Rankin County native Alexander W. "Alex" McIntosh will lead fundraising efforts for the university's largest academic unit. An MSU alumnus, he began work earlier this month.

McIntosh comes to the MSU Foundation from the university's Judy and Bobby Shackouls Honors College, where he has served since 2008 as a student services coordinator and lead student recruiter.

McIntosh is a 2007 arts and sciences college graduate, with dual degrees in economics and political science.

As an undergraduate, McIntosh was an Ottilie Schillig Leadership Scholar, one of the highest student honors. He also was a National Merit Scholar and a 2004-06 member of the Bulldog baseball team.

"We are extremely pleased to place Alex, who is a high-caliber arts and sciences graduate, with that academic unit as a fundraiser," said Jack McCarty, the foundation's executive director of development. "His experience as recruiter for the Shackouls Honors College also gives him a great basis to build on established connections with constituents."

Enrolling more than 5,000 students, the College of Arts and Sciences offers nearly two dozen degree programs through 14 separate departments. It also provides the general education courses of the 133-year-old land-grant institution.

"I know firsthand how private support can impact the university, since I was fortunate as an undergraduate to receive one of MSU's most prestigious scholarships," McIntosh said.

"As a fundraiser, I can help create opportunities for other students to learn from great teachers and researchers as I work with loyal alumni and friends for the betterment of the overall Mississippi State experience," he added.
