DAFVM Spotlight Employee: Chris Sowers

Chris Sowers

Chris Sowers

Chris Sowers works for the Mississippi State University Extension Service Office of Agricultural Communications as print manager. He oversees the intake of jobs, quality control, and logistics.

“The best part of the job has to be the people that I get to see every day,” Sowers said. “I have been fortunate to work with amazing people over the years.”

Sowers works with deadlines everyday and does well under pressure. He said his co-workers’ effort and encouragement make his day more enjoyable.

“Everything is always quickly turning over to the next thing,” Sowers said. “There is a lot of pressure in that, but when you have good people to work with who are kind, funny, and nice to be around, it makes everything so much more enjoyable, no matter what I am doing.”

Sowers began this job as a student worker. He started as an assistant inventory clerk and processed the publication orders as they were submitted.

The job chose him, he said. He learned the responsibilities of his position quickly and decided that this job was a really good fit for him. He said being a part of Ag Communications and seeing what they produce is really rewarding.

He advises students to try to find a career in what makes them happy, what they are good at, and what they are passionate about. Sowers tries to think of his work as helping and serving others.

“I would tell students to think in a different way about everything they do in order to better serve others in their community,” Chris said.
