A Mississippi State finance administrator and alumnus is a new Fellow of the National Association of College and University Business Officers.

Kevin Edelblute, MSU’s assistant vice president for finance and the university’s controller and treasurer, is one of 14 higher education business leaders in the nation to be named to the NACUBO Fellows Program.

“The program offers critical training and support for the next generation of college and university chief business officers,” said Susan Whealler Johnston, president and CEO of NACUBO, a nonprofit organization representing chief administrative and financial officers at more than 1,900 colleges and universities across the country.

During a year of intensive development, the Fellows work alongside higher education presidents, provosts and chief business officers to enhance their leadership, financial communications and change management skills. Edelblute will join the other cohort members for their first meeting in July before the NACUBO Annual Meeting in Austin, Texas.

MSU Vice President for Finance Don Zant said of NACUBO’s program and Edelblute’s honor, “The financial world of higher education continues to become more complex and challenging, particularly in the current changing landscape, and it’s important to cultivate the financial leaders of tomorrow. Kevin is currently doing an outstanding job as assistant vice president for finance, controller, and treasurer, and I have no doubt he will excel in this program.”

Edelblute has served MSU in his current role since 2008, overseeing the university’s day-to-day financial operations, including planning, directing and administering activities in several departments. They are treasury services, financial records, budget, payroll, receivables and collections, and sponsored programs accounting.

His first stint on campus was from 2003-2005 as a special assistant to the chief financial officer. In 2006, he completed an MSU Master’s in Business Administration. He also holds bachelor’s degrees in management information systems and accounting from Ohio State University.

Previous work experience included management positions with the Mississippi Department of Transportation and BearingPoint Consulting Inc., and a role with UBS PaineWebber Inc. as a financial adviser.

Currently serving on the board of directors for the Southern Association of College and University Business Officers, Edelblute is the co-chair of the organization’s professional development committee.
