Laird again elected treasurer for CASE District III

Harriet Laird, associate director in the Office of Public Affairs at Mississippi State, has been elected to serve a second term as treasurer of the Council For Advancement and Support of Education, District III. CASE, headquartered in Washington, D.C., serves educational institutions and the advancement professionals who work on their behalf in alumni relations, communications, development, marketing and allied areas. CASE District III serves the nine southeastern states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia.

Laird has served CASE District III for more than 20 years in a variety of roles such as executive board member, conference co-chair, scholarships and awards chair, and community college representative, while taking on committee responsibilities in the areas of innovative grants, marketing/communications conference track, and literature exchange.

As associate director in the MSU Office of Public Affairs since 2008, she works with the university’s Chief Communication Officer Sid Salter to manage the areas of news, graphic design, photography, branding/marketing and social media. She is charged with advancing the university's visibility through its people, programs and events, while also emphasizing the institution's mission of research, learning and service.

Prior to joining Mississippi State, Laird was communications coordinator for Nissan North America's manufacturing facility in Canton from 2006-08. For 13 years, she served as public relations director for Hinds Community College, where she was recognized as a Distinguished Administrator of the Year. She also led public relations efforts at Copiah-Lincoln Community College from 1988-1992 and was a member of the President’s Cabinet. Her other experience has included daily and weekly newspaper reporting, classroom teaching, advertising copywriting and freelance magazine writing.

Laird has held memberships and won awards from CASE, the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations, Southeastern Conference Communicators Association, College Public Relations Association of Mississippi, among others. She holds a bachelor's degree in journalism and a master's degree in public relations from the University of Southern Mississippi.
