The director of Mississippi State’s National Strategic Planning and Analysis Research Center has been reappointed to the Southern Regional Education Board.

First appointed to the board in 2016, Domenico “Mimmo” Parisi’s new appointment runs through June 30, 2021.

“I am honored that Gov. Bryant wants me to continue serving on this board, and I welcome the opportunity to assist the state of Mississippi and MSU in this capacity,” Parisi said.

The Southern Regional Education Board is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that focuses on improving quality of life by advancing public education. Its membership is made up of representatives from 16 Southern states. The board helps policymakers make informed decisions by providing independent, accurate data and recommendations. In addition to Gov. Phil Bryant and Parisi, Mississippi is represented on the board by State Senators Terry Burton and Videt Carmichael, as well as Laurie Smith, the Office of the Governor’s education policy advisor and executive director of the State Workforce Investment Board.

Parisi has served as NSPARC’s executive director since founding the interdisciplinary research center 10 years ago. A professor of sociology at MSU, Parisi has led several data science initiatives aimed at improving government, education, workforce and economic outcomes. He also is the executive director of the Mississippi State Longitudinal Data System data clearinghouse.

Earlier this year, Parisi was nominated to attend the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy’s State-Federal STEM Summit in Washington, D.C. In August, he received the Excellence in Local and District Government Award from Bryant and the Mississippi State Personnel Board.
