Mississippi will be well represented on June 25-26 at the State-Federal STEM Summit in Washington, D.C.
Gov. Phil Bryant has nominated Domenico “Mimmo” Parisi, professor and executive director of Mississippi State University’s National Strategic Planning and Analysis Research Center (NSPARC), to attend the summit hosted by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.
The summit brings together more than 150 like-minded colleagues from across the United States who will lead the conversation on federal support for STEM education and activities. According to the invitation letter from Jeff Weld, senior policy advisor and assistant director of STEM education for the Office of Science and Technology Policy, this dialogue will “engage state leaders on federal STEM education plans and the best use of STEM education resources for states to scale successful STEM programs.”
Parisi is one of the nation’s leading data scientists and is an active member of the State Early Childhood Advisory Council of Mississippi, the Southern Regional Education Board and the National Advisory Panel for Higher Education. He is also the executive director of Mississippi’s State Longitudinal Data System data clearinghouse, a role he has held since 2013.
“I’m honored that Governor Bryant is confident in my perspective on aligning state and federal STEM policies and programs,” Parisi said.
The National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S. Department of Labor and the Smithsonian Institution are supporting the summit in conjunction with the Office of Science and Technology Policy.
